And a big part of making a positive impression is making sure you look the part when you turn up.To help you pass the crucial ‘first 30 seconds test’, we spoke to Mark Solomon, co-founder of lovethesales.com, for his top tips on how to nail your job interview outfit:Tip 1 Wear a suit that fits (not your dads)The number one faux pas when it comes to wearing suits is wearing one that doesn’t fit you.Remember: the quality of a suit and how it fits defines you; and picking the right one can really make you stand out from the other interviewees.So, time to ditch the family heirloom (sorry dad) and invest in a new one. Just be sure not to overlook your measurements to ensure you choose the right size.Tip 2  Iron your shirt (properly)So you’ve got a great fitting suit on and a brand new shirt, but ther e’s one thing wrong with this picture your shirt is creased.And it’s no good frantically flashing your iron over it five minutes before you leave. Creases are simply non-negotiable when it comes to interviews.Not only will they completely ruin your outfit, they also don’t send out a great message when it comes to your hiring manager. After all, how are you supposed to get yourself organised in your new role if you can’t even organise what you’re wearing?For those particularly pushed for time (and/or slightly lazy), I’d recommend trying a non-iron shirt. Just make sure you follow the care instructions.Tip 3  Keep your footwear formal, but fashionableDo: Wear a nice pair of Brogues, or Derby shoes. How not to brand yourself when communicating with others - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career In the majority of my posts, I highlight and analyze the positive aspects of personal branding and how they apply to your lives. There are people who approach branding differently, and sometimes, in effect, hurt their own brands. Not everyone is perfect and I do receive some emails and messages that resemble the negative aspect of personal branding. Instead of calling this person out by name, thus damaging his reputation or brand online, I have left it anonymous. Part of my personal brand is not singling out individuals, unless they grant permission or ask for a brand assessment. I didnt block him, but I am no longer friends with him on Facebook. A few days later, I got yet another email from this person: I notice two of your key brand values are resourcefulness and creativity. Neither of these seemed much in evidence when you responded me to my comment on Facebook about your taste for Aston Martin cars by simply removing me from your list of friends. I thought that at least you might have a more thoughtful response than that. Analysis This individual went to great lengths to message me. Clearly, he views the Austin Martin brand as one with egoism, shallowness, etc. I have a different perspective, as I grew up with James Bond and feel that the Austin Martin is a symbol of achievement and class. He does note that his email was offensive, yet still sent it, which careless personal brand management. This man even goes over-the-top by saying that Im endorsing a car that isnt environmentally friendly. I mean, maybe it isnt, but I dont even own one. He even notes that Im intelligent, a potential opinion leader, talented and energetic, but only to try and make the email more personable. When messaging others advice Keep it short, concise and meaningful Personalize the message Be positive and stay rational Understand the persons perspective on the issue at hand Dont be too aggressive (Facebook message, email message, etc) Focus on the subject line to grab attention Subscribe to this blog

4 Templates for Infographic Resumes Dont wait to build an infographic resume. You dont need a fancy graphic design package- these templates make it easier. From online design to good old PowerPoint, theres a solution to fit your style and needs! Templates for Infographic Resumes There are four different tools I recommend checking out if you are interested in creating an infographic resume. Before you begin using any of these templates, youll want to have a plan or at least ideas of what you want to include. Read this to before you get too deep into using one of these templates: Convert Your Career Into A Visual Story Canva Infographic Templates Canva debuted their infographic templates recently and some would work really well for your infographic resume. No design skills required, but an eye for design will help! You can see the infographic templates here.    To edit this for your own purposes, youll need a free Canva account. This infographic is 800 pixels wide-  thats the recommended width. Click on the image to see it full size. There isnt a recommended length, but 2,000 pixels (like this) ought to do it. Just edit your details, add icons and photos and its your own. Download it to your computer and add it to your LinkedIn profile summary section! (Literally, this only took me 10 minutes. Imagine what you could do if you invested 30 minutes!) There are other templates for bio infographics, however, they will cost you. Consider them design inspiration. It is also a bit more time consuming to pull together your infographic resume. Youre in luck, there  are several templates here. Venngage Infographic Templates Yes, Venngage has infographic resume templates, but you need to pay to use them. I modified one of the free infographic templates to get this result (Create your own with a free Venngage account) and you can see more templates here. Create free infographics with Venngage. HubSpot Infographic Template If PowerPoint is more familiar to you, try using one of the 10 HubSpot templates. You will have to enter your email to get them, but it is worth it! Some Reminders Infograhic resumes are a supplement to the traditional text resume. Quality of wording matters A LOT. Dont forget accomplishment statements! Some of them may have invested in professionally written resumes. Many of them have wonderful work histories. So why aren’t they being inundated with job offers? One thing that may be holding them back is if the job seeker assumes their job is done after completing just online job search activities. A job search can rarely be productive or effective without person-to-person networking and job search-related activity, i.e. informational interviews, phone calls to catch up with network contacts, and/or lunch, coffee, or drinks to catch up with members of your professional network. Attending professional association-sponsored events, networking functions, or job fairs can be a smart use of time in certain situations as well.
